Rob Wickson to stand for Saanich Council in By-Election
Local businessman, economist and well known community leader Rob Wickson has announced that he is standing as a candidate in the upcoming municipal by-election in Saanich to be held on September 23rd.
“Our community needs vibrant neighbourhoods with affordable accessible housing, clear and detailed regional transportation planning, and sustainable land use. Saanich must have decision makers who can grasp the broad vision and shape the policies to benefit our communities.”
“Many individuals have encouraged me to stand for Council. I recognize the contribution the late Vic Derman made to the Municipality of Saanich and throughout our longstanding relationship he reflected a deep commitment to sustainable, social and economic development.
“Saanich Council has to become more effective and responsive to the issues facing our communities” said Wickson. For over 20 plus years I have brought innovative and bold ideas to community conversations to help us understand how new technologies are changing the local economic landscape. I appreciate the importance of community engagement and transparent governance because good leadership empowers those around us. As the largest municipality in the CRD we must encourage sustainable growth and lead by example. We have so much potential.”
Rob Wickson is a partner in Discovery Economic Consulting, a consulting firm that provides economic advice to the legal community and he has been qualified as an expert witness to the BC Supreme Court since 2010. He has lived in the Gorge Tillicum Neighbourhood since 1988. He has been a Board Member and Treasurer of the Gorge Tillicum Community Association and in 2017 was re-elected President of the GTCA. He is also a past Chair of the BC Chamber of Commerce and past-president of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Bike to Work Victoria.
Wickson said, “My family and I have been involved in the community for almost 30 years. I believe that my engagement as a community leader and as a business owner has given me the necessary skills and experience to work effectively on Saanich Council. I know that many share my vision and want to see a positive change in Saanich. It is time to elect a new voice to Saanich Council.”
